Eighty to 90 percent of U.S. workers say they would like to telecommute at least part-time, according to GlobalWorkplaceAnalytics.com. But, some jobs are more conducive to remote work than others.
Opportunities for remote work have expanded in recent years. A report from FlexJobs reveals some of the fields that hire the most for remote job openings. Let’s take a closer look at five of the most popular job categories.
1. Sales
The duties of many sales positions, like customer service representative and account executive, can be carried out via phone, email and other online systems. Just keep in mind that excellent interpersonal skills are still required for success in these jobs — even if you do them from the comfort of your own home.
2. Travel and hospitality
It might surprise you to learn that the field of travel and hospitality is ripe with opportunities for remote workers. Jobs like remote travel agent, hospitality manager and corporate travel consultant are common opportunities for telecommuters working in this field. These days, so many businesses are international. Therefore, jobs in this industry are a good fit for folks who like to help others to achieve their professional travel goals as well as their personal ones.
3. Computer and IT
Lots of IT and computer jobs are available for remote workers. There is a wide range of positions, from software developer, to IT security consultant to systems administrator. Workers typically need extensive training and technical skills, as well as the ability to work well independently.
