In order to help you navigate your optimize your learning options, we’ve broken down the sessions into five different tracks (plus some additional product sessions). You can pick and choose whichever workshops and sessions you want to attend (space permitting). But feel free to use these tracks as a guide.

Best Practices

Perhaps you’re just starting out in the compensation industry. Or maybe you want a refresher on what are some standard principles and procedures in the industry. Either way, the Best Practices track is for you.

One session that might be of interest is “Starbucks Principles & Practices for Achieving Pay Equity” led by Chris Martin, senior manager, compliance and analytics at Starbucks. In 2018 Starbucks made headlines when it announced that it had achieved “100% pay equity along gender and minority lines in the United States.” Furthermore, it made a commitment to continue working towards “greater pay equity in all company-operated markets globally.”  This session will provide some practical advice and detail some lessons they’ve learned along the way.

Beyond Base Pay

You have your basic pay ranges down. But now what? How can you take your pay practices to the next level? The Beyond Base Pay track may be for you.

You might want to check out the “It’s Time for a Compensation Revolution” session led by Summer Rector, chief operating officer of Total Rewards Consulting and Felicia Graves, senior director of compensation at Blue Cross and Blue Shield.

For years, companies have depended on rewards systems that included a salary structure, bonuses and annual merit increases.  But are these systems still effective in today’s market? Join this session to discuss revolutionary ideas such as paying employees to quit, eliminating bonuses, blowing up merit pay and more

Business Results

Even if you have good strong practices in place, you want to make sure you’re achieving the results you’re going for. Now more than ever business leaders are looking for a strong return on investment.

“Compensation: Driving Future Revenues” may be just the right session for you. Mary Lasky, compensation professional from PayScale, will lead this insightful workshop. How can organizations begin to evaluate the value-add of compensation decisions, and how they impact revenue? Furthermore, what returns are expected?  This session will address these questions and more.

Data Excellence

Tech nerds of a certain age might remember the term GIGO. It’s an acronym for “garbage in, garbage out”.  Needless to say ,accurate and reliable data is an essential component of any SAAS organization. It’s also important for building customer confidence for your business.

Be sure to check out the “Data Science at PayScale: How it Can Help You and Your Organization” session. Heather Taylor, business product manager at PayScale, will lead this informative session.

“We will provide an introduction to how PayScale uses data science to improve our products and services. We will talk about our job-matching system, pay-prediction model, and other topics. Data science and analytics is a big differentiator of PayScale from other pay products available. We will discuss how PayScale data science can help you and your organization!”

Transparency/Communication

Having the right level of transparency is important for any organization. When implemented correctly, it can lead to higher satisfaction and lower employee turnover.

Check out Kathy Steele’s session “What is Your PayBrand Story? Humanize Benefits & Perks to Win the War For Talent.”  Today’s HR leaders and compensation professionals are tasked with developing the narrative behind their company’s salary and benefits story. A strong pay brand story will help increase employee loyalty and retention.
