Retirement isn’t what it used to be, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. While some retirement age workers continue plugging away out of necessity, others do so because they want to stay active — or because, with longer longevity, they can.
Whatever the reason, there are jobs out there for retired (or semi-retired) worker who wants or needs to make extra cash, including:
1. Seasonal jobs
This is a huge category that covers everything from working as a movie extra to manning a cash register at Macy’s during the holiday season. A recent article on Marketwatch about jobs for retirees offers a hat tip to seasonal job board CookWorks.com.
2. Consulting gigs
If you have specific expertise, but don’t want to spend your golden years shackled to a desk, consulting might be for you. MarketWatch recommends starting off by calling your old clients and colleagues to offer your services.
3. Freelance jobs
Depending on what you did at your full-time job, you might find the transition to freelancing pretty smooth — and lucrative. Freelancing has the added benefit of being flexible; you can often tailor your schedule, working more when you need more cash, and backing off when you’d rather visit the grandkids. FlexJobs.com is a good source for part-time, freelance, and telecommuting jobs.
