Washington, D.C.: Government Affairs Director
This job pays well — over $100,000 a year, median! — but the folks who do this kind of work earn their money. Whenever your job involves communicating policy decisions to people who might not like them, you’re working hard.
Miami: Executive Chef
Cooking competition shows make it look more stressful to be at the end of the line, but executive chefs bear the pressure of satisfying both customers and restaurant owners. Miami, with its bustling eateries and busy nightspots, has a high concentration of this stressful profession. Executive chefs make a median salary of about $56,000 a year in the U.S.
Denver: Construction Superintendent
You know the old saying: you have fast, cheap, or good — pick any two. Construction superintendents defy the rule and make sure that we get all three. Pretty important stuff, when you consider how many things can go dangerously wrong on a construction site. Their median salary in the U.S. is just over $70,000 annually.
