Women are underrepresented in tech. At Facebook, only 15 percent of engineers are women; at Google, that number is 17 percent. At the same time, there are finally some big, female names heading up tech giants. Do more famous faces equal a better situation for regular women in STEM fields?

Looking at the top five jobs from U.S. News‘s list of best tech jobs for 2014, and using PayScale data for male-to-female ratios for each occupation, we can see how outnumbered women really are in top tech fields:
Median Salary: $65,451
Male-to-Female Ratio: 89 percent male, 11 percent female
Median Salary: $60,438
Male-to-Female Ratio: 80 percent male, 20 percent female
Median Salary: $52,981
Male-to-Female Ratio: 82 percent male, 18 percent female
4. Information Security Analyst
Median Salary: $68,680
Male-to-Female Ratio: 82 percent male, 18 percent female
Median Salary: $68,393
Male-to-Female Ratio: 74 percent male, 26 percent female
In short, as inspirational as we might find Sheryl Sandberg and Marissa Mayer, their stories haven’t yet trickled down to normal, working people. A recent infographic from WhoIsHostingThis.com shows that how the gender imbalance persists at tech companies.
