If you’ve recently scored your first job after graduation, you might feel like you’ve crossed the finish line. After years of studying and months of interviews, you’re finally on the right path, right? Well, yes — as long as you keep a few important things in mind on your journey.

Levo League recently published a roundup of their mentors’ best advice for folks who are just beginning their careers. It made us think about the best advice we received when we were starting out, including:
1. Nobody likes a know-it-all.
It’s totally possible that with your fresh perspective, you see things that the old-timers around the office don’t pick up on anymore. But before you assume that the system is broken, take the time to figure out how things work. Even if you’re right, doing your research will provide you with ammunition when you make your case for a new way of doing things.
2. Stay calm, and show your work.
The best thing about the new kid in the office is that he’s full of energy. The worst thing about the new kid in the office is that he’s full of energy. Share your enthusiasm, but don’t exhaust people with an overflow of opinion. Whenever possible, boost your position with facts and figures. Numbers are hard to argue with.
3. Cynicism is catching.
Every office has at least one Eeyore type who complains all day long. Stay far, far away from that person. At this point in your career, what you lack in experience, you make up for in enthusiasm. Don’t let the haters kill your joy.
