Amazon Has the Most Attractive Tech Workers

The makers of Hinge, a dating app that stresses professional affiliations as well as social connections, says that users swipe right for Amazon employees 14.2 percent above the average — more than Apple, Google, or Facebook, whose network they use to validate user identity. (Ouch.)

“It wasn’t necessarily as I would have guessed,” Hinge CEO Justin McLeod told The Wall Street Journal. McLeod declined to say which tech workers he would have predicted for the title of Most Right-Swipeable.

Amazon employees were also the least picky, according to The Wall Street Journal, left-swiping to dismiss potential matches at 15 percent below average for all users. Workers at Facebook were the most picky, rejecting profiles 7.5 percent more than average.

For reference, these are the five tech companies and how they rated compared to the average Hinge user — plus, a little extra data on each, courtesy of PayScale’s Research Center:

1. Amazon: 14.2 percent

Job Satisfaction: Highly satisfied

Male-to-Female Ratio: 74 percent male, 26 percent female

2. Microsoft: 8.2 percent

Pays Employees: 15 percent above market

Job Satisfaction: Extremely satisfied

Male-to-Female Ratio: 76 percent male, 24 percent female

3. Google: 7.2 percent

Pays Employees:12 percent above market

Job Satisfaction: Extremely satisfied

Male-to-Female Ratio: 69 percent male, 31 percent female

4. Facebook: 2.3 percent

Pays Employees: 19 percent above market

Job Satisfaction: Extremely satisfied

Male-to-Female Ratio: 74 percent male, 26 percent female

5. Apple: -0.2 percent

Pays Employees: 10 percent above market

Job Satisfaction: Extremely satisfied

Male-to-Female Ratio: 77 percent male, 23 percent female

What does this mean for workers at these companies? Well, in practical terms, probably nothing. But if 9 percent of workers meet their significant others at their job, perhaps techies who are looking for an attractive mate — and who think they have the same definition of attractiveness as the average Hinge user — should target one of the top companies.
