Tired of hearing about how your inexperience are keeping you from, well, getting experience? Clutch this story to your weary bosom. In Dorset, Minnesota, the mayor is 4 years old and has declared ice cream to be the top of the food pyramid.
“Chocolate. And vanilla. Strawberry. Cotton candy kind. And rainbow sherbet,” said Mayor Robert “Bobby” Tufts, in an interview with The Associated Press.
Of course, the mayor of Dorset is mostly a ceremonial position. There’s no mention of salary in the AP piece, and the mayor is elected via drawing at the Taste of Dorset festival every year. Ballots cost $1 each, and citizens can vote as many times as they like.
Bobby was elected at just 3 years old and is running for reelection this summer. His campaign card, which he distributes personally, shows Bobby wearing a fishing vest and hanging out with his girlfriend Sophie.
His campaign card reads: “I would love to be your mayor as much as I love Sophie.”
There’s no denying that Bobby’s tenure has been an epic success, at least in terms of PR for the town.
“I think he’s a cute little bugger and I think a lot of people share the same, you know, opinion as me, and it’s neat,” Hubbard County Sheriff Cory Aukes says. “You know, how often do you see a little kid like that who’s — call ’em camera-friendly or whatever, you know — he’s got a very good little personality, and he’s not afraid to show it. So I think it’s great.”
