There’s little argument in the fact that women played a huge role in the most recent presidential election. In a magnified way, they were singled out among politicians striving to make their mark on their constituents.
Back in 1992, there was, as of that time, an unprecedented Senate when a record seven women were elected. Now, as of November 6, 2012, America has chosen 20 women to represent them in the Senate. It’s a far cry short of the 51 we need to accurately represent the population, but it is far better than in the past.
Nine women are returning to continue their terms. Six have been re-elected, and five are newly elected. There is an obvious divide across party lines, though. Eighty percent of the women in the Senate are Democrats, and only 20 percent are Republicans. Let’s hope that future elections can continue to hold up officials who more accurately represent the citizens of America. We’re off to a good start. One thing that this infographic seems to ensure is the fact that women are finding more success in the workplace. The Senate is simply a larger-scaled portrait of that success.
