#Compference16 was engaging, informative, and social – both live and online. Our hashtag even became one of the top trending hashtags in Seattle. Comp and HR professionals are definitely social people. While we’d like to highlight every single session and every single tweet, because they were all amazing, we have to maintain some of the mystery of the event for those of you who were and weren’t able to make it. Instead, here are highlights of some of our favorite tweets from #Compference16.

We started off Compference with our CEO, Mike Metzger. He had plenty of bad dad jokes just to make sure that everyone was awake on this early Tuesday morning. Besides making us laugh, he also explained the importance of keeping compensation fair, transparent, and modern. He made predictions on the future of compensation. He also inspired all of our attendees to think of trends in compensation like waves.

We are so grateful to have had such an amazing panel at #Compference16 which included Britt Provost, SVP of People and Culture at Apptio, Ruchika Tulshyan, Author, Jen Wyne, Director of HR at Moss Adams, and our very own Lydia Frank, Senior Director Editorial and Marketing at PayScale. They all brought great insight on gender equity and ideas on how we can sponsor and inspire someone today.
Love the conversation between these smart professionals around value of getting gender equity right. #compference16 pic.twitter.com/UbSXLy85BS

We started off Compference16 Day 2 with the brilliant Shankar Vedantam from NPR, a great selfie opportunity for many attendees. He helped us to recognize that money is necessary but not sufficient for a happy workplace. Using his knowledge of “The Hidden Brain”, Shankar brought to life the psychology of money. He reminded us that transparency is a two way street. It takes effort from both employees and employers.
So psyched to welcome @ShankarVedantam of @HiddenBrain to #compference16 and @payscale HQ today! #HRTech pic.twitter.com/9gtH5w8oe8

Our crack panel of experts guided a lively discussion of FLSA changes. Liz D’Aloia from HR Virtuoso, Brooke Birdsong from Associa, and Theresa Hatcher from MarketPay discussed changes to the law, things not to let your lawyer drive, and the importance of planful communication, and the months of analysis that ultimately drove decisions to increase or adjust to non-exempt. This crew was determined to make compliance interesting.

Data was a pretty large theme throughout Compference. Data is everywhere and it’s important to know how to interpret that data. During our Modern Data for a Modern Organization breakout session led by Katie Bardaro, VP of Data Analytics at PayScale, and Emily Jensen, VP of Customer Success at PayScale, customers were reminded that it’s time to make sure your data covers your organization’s needs, including speed, accuracy, and coverage.
The data ladies are bringing it! Have u ever completed a traditional survey?? Ewwwww. #compference16 pic.twitter.com/8bGEocmLEA

During our session led by Tracy Lawrence, Co-Founder and CEO at Chewse we learned that you don’t need to be out for blood to be a good CEO. It is possible to run a successful love company. She mentioned that 71% of Chewse employees think that their salary is fair, which is amazing compared to the 36% average in the PayScale 2016 CBPR.
Benefits of salary transparency at @Chewse. Jaws across the room dropped at this slide. #lovecompany #compference16 pic.twitter.com/pzNGBlLE2x

Compference was not only about gaining new comp knowledge. It was also about meeting new people in the comp community. Customers had the chance to meet other customers and PayScale employees face to face, maybe even get their autograph. They also got an exclusive invitation to join Comptopia where they’ll continue the conversation with others in the comp community long after Compference16 is over.

Compference was all about our customers. Simply put, we love our customers and we love what they do. We had Luna Bars and Clif Bars during one of our breaks in support of one of our amazing customers. It was great to reenergize our attendees and get them excited to talk more comp.
So proud to be representing my company! Thanks @payscale for the shout out! #compference16 pic.twitter.com/9Xl3K5A0pp
