College is getting more expensive, seemingly by the minute. Smart students choose their schools carefully, pinch pennies, and look for cash anywhere they can — including some truly odd college scholarships you have to see to believe.
Learnvest recently did a piece on eyebrow-raising scholarships. These are some of the strangest:
1. Be Really Tall — or Really Short
The Tall Clubs International gives out $1,000 to first year women who are at least 5-feet, 10-inches tall and men who are at least 6-feet, 2-inches tall. The Little People of America, on the other hand, offer between $250 and $1000 to students who are under 4-feet, 10-inches tall.
2. Be a Vegetarian
The Vegetarian Resource Group offers $5,000 each to two students who have promoted vegetarianism in their high schools or communities.
3. Be Willing to Attend Prom in Duck Tape.
Duct tape company Duck offers $5,000 for the best prom outfit made out of their tape. (There are some truly amazing pictures here.)
If you don’t fit any of these criteria, but still want to research scholarships for the future, check out the U.S. Department of Labor’s free tool, which includes scholarships, grants, internships, and loans.
