Want a Happier Life? Move Down Under

Topics:

If you’re looking for a better life, you may want to head Down Under. Australia ranked No. 1 in the Better Life Index, which the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Develop puts together annually.

It’s the third year in a row that Australia has been named the “happiest” developed country. With statistics like this, it’s no wonder it ranked tops:

  • 73 percent of Australians between the ages of 15 and 64 have a paying job.
  • Australia avoided the 2009 recession entirely — the only major developed country to do so.
  • The average life expectancy is near 82 years.
  • The Australian economy has been growing steadily for over 20 years.

The other countries in the top five were, in order, Sweden, Canada, Norway and Switzerland, according to the BBC. In a separate study by Randstad, the most attractive industries to work in for Australians include aviation, the federal government and media.
