5 Side Jobs to Boost Your Income

Topics: Career Advice

Planning on how to spend that whopping 3 percent raise this year — if you’re lucky enough to get one? Most companies maintain tight budgets for merit increases; depending on how your expenses grow during the year, that money is often gone seemingly before it hits your paycheck. For this reason, many workers maintain two or even three jobs.

If you’re in the market for a side job, you obviously need flexibility, as well as cash. There’s no point in taking on more work if it gets you in trouble with the boss at your regular 9-to-5. Recently, FlexJobs ran a list of supplemental income jobs that offer flexible schedules, as well as decent money.

These are a few that might fit into your schedule:

Family Travel Advisor

If you have sales experience and a passion for traveling with children, this flexible, part-time job might be perfect for you. Interest in the travel industry is required, but previous experience as a travel agent is not.

Data Entry Specialist

Yes, it’s still possible to get a side job doing data entry. This contract gig pays $13 to $16 per hour and requires a year of experience. The job involves research as well as correcting errors.

Math Tutor

Earn $20 an hour in this part-time, telecommuting job. Open to candidates with professional certification and familiarity with Common Core.

Refund Processor

No post-high school education is required for this part-time, entry-level job. Successful candidates will have a diploma or a GED, and some experience with medical coding and Microsoft Excel.

Non-Profit Fundraiser

Want to get outside and make things happen? Experienced fundraisers with a passion for making change on a local and global level might enjoy this Los Angeles-based job, which involves face-to-face interaction with the public. Pay is $14 to $17 per hour.

Not that level of flexibility varies. Some of these gigs are telecommuting positions, while others offer a part-time schedule or short-term work. For the full list, and details on each opening, see FlexJobs’ post.
