Topics:

All the career experts said that LinkedIn was the place to be for job hunters. You made a LinkedIn profile, but now the recruiters are staying away in droves. What gives?

Melanie Pinola, author of “LinkedIn in 30 Minutes,” and Donna Svei of AvidCareerist.com joined forces to create this infographic explaining why recruiters aren’t clicking all the way through your profile and contacting you.

Do You Know What You're Worth?

Among the possibilities:

1. You’re not connected to recruiters — or many other people.

2. You don’t have a profile photo — or your photo is blurry, outdated, or otherwise not selling you well.

3. Your headline is boring — or full of typos.

Sixty-four percent of recruiters say they only use LinkedIn as a recruiting tool, so if you’re not on the network or not using it to its full potential, you’re missing out.

I do not use a profile photo due to the nature of my work regarding security:  Facial-recognition software makes it all too easy to identify you in a crowd.  People are volunteering all manner of photos via social media that can be used for nefarious means by others.

Additionally, it is better to omit a profile pic so as to reduce or eliminate any bias during the decision-making process.  There is considerable empirical evidence to support this.

I believe video on profile is important.

In today scenario where people don’t read much, having strong, short introduction video will make big different.
