How Facebook’s New Search Tool Will Impact Business Pages

Topics:

Facebook has just unveiled a new tool to help social networkers find online friends with similar interests. Graph Search is being marketed to individuals who are looking to expand their social circles, but Todd Wasserman of Mashable notes how Business Pages can also take advantage of the new feature. Facebook will be including Sponsored Stories and Sponsored Results in Graph Searches.

“Overall rankings will be based on top search suggestions, including people, Pages, apps, places, groups and suggested searches,” writes Wasserman. “The results are also based on data shared by a business and connections of the person searching.”?

Facebook’s overall strategy, as Wasserman points out, is to create an incentive for businesses to make their Facebook Pages as engaging and interactive as possible. For example, when a person searches “smartphones my friends own,” the Page relevant to the search with the most interaction and fans will be listed first.

Facebook’s Graph Search is currently running a limited beta program. What do you think of the social network’s new feature?
