Here’s another bonus of low unemployment: companies are now willing to consider workers who have non-traditional backgrounds. (Read: lack the formal education usually listed as a requirement in job listings.) These opportunities even include work-from-home jobs.

If you think about it, it never made sense to restrict some jobs based on education level. You don’t need a bachelor’s degree to be an amazing developer or salesperson — you need skills, talent and drive, none of which are necessarily directly conferred through a degree program.

Talented employees who’ve previously found themselves shut out of opportunities now have more options. For example, Remote.co, an online resource for companies with remote workers, recently ran a roundup of fully remote jobs for workers without bachelor’s degrees. The following are a few from their list.

Note that not all openings with these job titles will allow telecommuting and be open to workers of all education levels. But every job listed is compatible with full-time telecommuting and on-the-job experience in place of a degree.

Do You Know What You're Worth?

5 Work-From-Home Jobs for People Without a Bachelor’s Degree

1. Business Transcriptionist

Transcriptionist jobs don’t necessarily pay the big bucks. PayScale’s data show that medical transcriptionists, for example, earn a median salary of just over $30,000 per year. But they do frequently have a high degree of flexibility, which is important to many people who prefer to work from home. If this job appeals to you, be prepared to take a transcription test that will reflect 99 percent accuracy and excellent grammar skills.

2. Content Project Manager

This is a role that typically would require at least a bachelor’s degree. But with the right on-the-job training, candidates can let their track record of success speak for itself. Project management skills are valuable; jobs that require them often pay in excess of $70,000 per year, according to our data.

3. Customer Account Specialist

When people think of work-from-home jobs, they often think of customer service positions like this one. According to PayScale data, CSR jobs typically pay around $13.50 per hour. A degree isn’t required, but these jobs aren’t for the phone-phobic or those who can’t handle talking to dozens of people per day.

4. Web Developer

In this job, what you know matters more than why you know it, so a bachelor’s degree isn’t as important as being able to demonstrate your skills. Typical annual pay hovers around $58,000 a year, per our data.

5. Podcaster

OK, so you’re probably not going to see a listing for podcaster in the Occupational Outlook Handbook anytime soon. But the fact that Remote.co has a job listing for the role is a good reminder that typical jobs aren’t the only gigs to look for when you’re casting your job-search net. If you have a passion project that’s led you to develop technical skills in an unusual area, don’t discount the possibility that your hobby could lead to a job. Keep your eyes open. You never know when you’ll find the perfect fit.
