Would a Flexible Job Improve Your Sex Life?

Forty-four percent of respondents to a recent FlexJobs survey thought that having a flexible job would improve their sex life.

A further 30 percent said that they were optimistic that a flexible job might improve their sex life, citing lower stress and therefore increased feelings of attractiveness and more time with their partner.

FlexJobs surveyed over 1,200 respondents to see how work affected their personal lives, including their work-life balance, relationships, stress levels and overall health.

The findings showed that people are struggling with work-life balance. Only 30 percent of respondents said that they were satisfied with their work-life balance, compared with 45 percent of respondents three years ago.

“Poor work-life balance continues to be a major, chronic issue for today’s workforce, and despite more conversations about the topic, the problem seems to be getting worse,” said Sara Sutton Fell, founder and CEO of FlexJobs, in a statement. “Employers really need to pay attention when the overwhelming majority of workers say that work flexibility would make their lives better is combined with the fact that flexible work has proven bottom line benefits to companies. It is very clear that the further adoption of flexible work arrangements can provide healthier and more sustainable benefits–economic, health, social, and more–to both workers and organizations.”

Ninety-four percent said that having a flexible job would have a positive impact on their personal lives. (FlexJobs defines flexible work as “professional-level jobs that have a telecommuting, flexible schedule, freelance, or part-time component.”)

Only 30% of respondents were satisfied with their work-life balance, compared with 45% three years ago.

Other Findings From the Survey

– 84 percent thought that a flexible job would help them be a more attentive partner.

– 53 percent thought it would increase time for date nights.

– 47 percent said it would benefit their romantic relationship, while 31 percent were hopeful it would.

– 46 percent of working parents thought that it would improve their sex life.
