Do you love flamingos, have a degree in zoology or a related field, experience working with exotic birds — and a desire to live in the Bahamas?

If so, Baha Mar has a job for you. The brand-new resort is hiring a Chief Flamingo Officer to care for its soon-to-arrive flock.

Per the job description:

Baha Mar’s Chief Flamingo Officer serves as a working supervisor for all flamingo areas, collaborating with the Avian Curator, other Avian Managers and Aviculturist staff. This position oversees the day to day operations of the flamingo collections and the staff that work in those areas to create a Beach Sanctuary experience that will leave a lasting impression on guests.

Do You Have What It Takes to Be a Chief Flamingo Officer?

Per the job description at Baha Mar’s careers page, the successful applicant will have:

  •       College degree in Zoology or related field, or commensurate experience.
  •       5+ years experience working in the care and husbandry of exotic birds, with specific [hands-on] flamingo experience, at an accredited animal facility or in a professional environment.
  •       1+ years supervisory experience, including directly managing a program and leading a team of professional staff.
  •       Wide knowledge of biology, ecology, behavior and captive requirements of flamingos.

Experience with bird habitat maintenance, food preparation and nutrition and record-keeping skills are also required, as are basic computer skills.

Note that this isn’t a job for folks who hate giving presentations: “professional presentation and communication skills including dynamic guest interaction techniques” are also required.

The job also comes with a fair amount of responsibility: HuffPost notes that flamingos are the national bird of the Bahamas, so caring for this flock is a big deal.

Think you have what it takes? Apply now through February 28 at Baha Mar’s site. (Enter the keywords “Chief Flamingo Officer.”)
