Younger Voters Favor Clinton 2-to-1, While Older Voters Slightly Prefer Trump. Who Will Be President? Part 5

Gender, salary, job title, education, industry … all impact your politics. For our election coverage, PayScale surveyed 17,227 users between August 5, 2016 and August 25, 2016 to see how they’re casting their vote. We’ll update our election stats and infographics leading up to Nov. 8, and be sure to get out and vote!

Of the 17,227 respondents surveyed between August 5 and August 25, 38 percent reported being registered Democrats, 32 percent reported being registered Republicans, and 30 percent reported being Independent.

The below chart shows nominee support by age.

Interesting takeaways:

• Young respondents, in age groups 18 to 24 and 25 to 34, favor Clinton over Trump roughly two to one.
• Older respondents, in age groups 45 to 54 and 55 or more, slightly favor Trump.
• Third-party candidates enjoy the most support among the 25 to 34 age group: 16 percent. Support for third-party candidates wanes among older age groups.

The below chart shows nominee support by industry.

Interesting takeaways:

• Clinton enjoys the greatest amount of support among workers in the Educational Services industry (47 percent) and Arts, Entertainment, and Recreation industry (44 percent).
  • Respondents in these categories are roughly three times more likely to support Clinton than Trump.
• Trump enjoys the greatest amount of support among workers in the Construction industry (40 percent) and the Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing, and Hunting industry (37 percent).
  • Respondents in these categories are roughly twice as likely to support Trump than Clinton.
• Respondents in the Mining industry are most likely be be undecided regarding their choice of candidate: 30 percent.
