Working professionals tend to be bound by daily routines — we wake up, eat, get dressed, work, come home, eat, watch TV, sleep. After a while, it can start to feel like we’re simply going through the motions of life instead of enjoying any part of it. If you feel like your daily routine is starting to affect your life in and out of the office, rest assured that it happens to the best of us and there is hope. You can start by adding these three simple and effective lifehacks into your daily routine to improve your health and put that pep back in your step.

Do You Know What You're Worth?

1. Drink warm water with lemon. You’ve probably seen articles in your news feeds trying to convince you of the benefits of drinking warm water and lemon in the morning. While experts debate the health claims, the ritual of making and drinking it can be calming and set you up for a day of making careful choices about nutrition.

The best part is, it’s ridiculously easy and inexpensive to make. Simply pour warm filtered water into a mug and squeeze half of a washed lemon into the mug.

2. Take a break. Studies show that taking regular breaks throughout the day prevents “decision fatigue” and boosts productivity. One study even showed that the most productive employees weren’t ones that put in long hours, but they were the ones who took regular breaks throughout the day — 17-minute breaks, to be exact. Simply taking a walk outside to get some fresh air and change stimulus can do a body good. Even better, a Plymouth University study claims that playing Tetris during breaks is actually beneficial. You’re welcome. Whatever you choose to do on your break is up to you, we just want to encourage you to take regular breaks throughout the day so that you don’t crash and burn at work.

3. Eat your veggies. Instead of devouring a high-calorie, greasy super-size cheeseburger meal for lunch, eat a vitamin-rich salad instead. Green leafy vegetables are packed with tons of essential vitamins and nutrients, and these green beauties have been proven to boost immunity, lower cholesterol, encourage vision health, promote bone health, and prevent colon cancer, to name a few. A big green salad may not be the most desirable item on your lunch list, but your future self will thank you for choosing healthier lunch options over time — you know, because you’ll be alive and healthy, for starters. Remember to not douse your salad/greens with dressing/sauce, and, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but iceberg lettuce doesn’t count because, despite its popularity in many salads, it’s the least nutritious.

You don’t have to make drastic changes in your life in order to see positive results. Usually, it’s the little changes we make over time that, collectively, make the biggest impact on our lives.

Challenge yourself to implement these simple and effective lifehacks into your life starting tomorrow and reap the benefits of starting a new routine that will promote a happier, healthier, more productive you!
