The Top 20 Companies for Work-at-Home Jobs

Topics:

Working from home saves commuting time and the cash you’d spend getting to work, and keeping yourself fed and caffeinated while you’re there. It’s also a pretty good deal for companies, who get employee loyalty for no cost and might even see some productivity gains in the bargain. But not every company is on board with allowing employees to work at home. If you want to work remotely, you have to find the employers are OK with it.

FlexJobs is a job search site that focuses strictly on jobs for people who want a flexible schedule — meaning part-time, flextime, freelance, or remote work. At the end of the year, the company went through its databases and determines which companies posted the most remote jobs, and compiled a list. You can see all 100 here, but here’s the top 20:

Do You Know What You're Worth?

1. Xerox

2. UnitedHealth Group

3. Dell

4. Aetna

5. American Express

6. First Data

7. Humana

8. Westat

9. K12

10. ADP

11. Overland Solutions Inc.

12. CyberCoders

13. U.S. Department of Transportation

14. SAP

15. PayJunction

16. Connections Academy

17. Apple

18. IBM

19. HD Supply

20. Salesforce.com

Keep in mind that these companies are just the ones who posted the highest number of remote jobs during this year, at this particular company. Some occupations are more likely than others to lend themselves to a work-from-home arrangement. For example, FlexJobs says that nurse care managers, virtual teachers, account executives, and web or software developers crop up frequently when users are searching for remote jobs.

There are also a lot of scams out there, so it’s a good idea to do your research before you start looking at specific gigs. Look up employers at our Research Center, and watch out for red flags that indicate less-than-honest companies, like charging you for training materials or a starter kit. Alison Doyle of About.com’s Job Searching site lists a few common scams to watch out for.
