The first release of the fourth quarter of 2013 is live. We’ve been hard at work on all aspects of the site, and we’re excited for this release. Read on for the full details…
RC:TNG Expands to Canada and India
After all of the hard work we’ve put into Research Center: The Next Generation (RC:TNG), we’re expanding it to include India and Canada. We will be testing the old-vs-new in India for a couple of weeks, to make sure everyone likes the newer version before rolling it out full-time.
Venn Diagram of Skills
To be more accurate, it’s an Euler (pronounced “oiler”) diagram (Euler vs. Venn diagram explained). This chart shows the overlap between the most popular skills for a job. For example, a software engineer could know C++ and C#. Now you can see how often they overlap.
For Those Not Inclined to Charts
Our pages tend to be very chart heavy, and not everyone likes charts as much as we do, so we decided to make our prose-hungry users happy. We have tried to pull out the most important information from all of the charts on the page, and summarize them right at the top of the page.
New Load Balancer
This is probably interesting only for the technically inclined, but I’m really excited about it. We’re replacing our long-standing implementation of Windows NLB with HAProxy. This will help us more easily maintain all of our web servers and manage misbehaving web servers.
And More!
We did lots more stuff too, including: testing some new feedback mechanisms, updating the font on RC:TNG, and displaying more of the reviews and advice we’re collecting in the survey
