PayScale’s Generations at Work data package examined the commuting habits of Gen Y, Gen X, and Baby Boomers, and discovered that, when it comes to getting to work, the generations have more in common than you might think.

Specifically, most of us, independent of when we were born, still drive to work. Most of us drive solo, too: 0.9 percent of Gen X and Baby Boomers carpooled, and only 1.1 percent of Gen Y carpooled. Good news if you like to be in charge of the radio, but bad news for the environment (and our fuel costs).
Gen Y workers were far more likely to walk (2.2 percent, bike (1 percent), or take the bus (3.4 percent), train (3.2 percent) or subway (4.6 percent) than other generations. Although, whether that’s because Millennials are more eco-conscious or because they’re more likely to be underemployed, and thus short on cash, is up for debate.
