#PayChat: The College Salary Report

Topics:

If you could go back in time to your freshman year of college, would you choose a different major? For students currently exploring your college options, is your main objective to choose a major that will make a difference in the world or lead to financial success after graduation?

The PayScale 2013 – 2014 College Salary Report shows direct links between colleges, majors and post-graduate earning potential. Is this information that might be useful to you or do you mourn the fact that this information wasn’t available to you 20 or 30 years ago? Please join us this Wednesday, September 25th at 10:30 A.M. (PT) to discuss these issues in our monthly twitter chat, #PayChat.

Although financial stability is desirable, it is certainly not the only factor to consider when determining one’s success. Perhaps your college major did lead you to an economically stable job, but at the cost of working like a dog and never getting to see your family. On the flip side, perhaps you have an incredibly rewarding job where you feel like you are making positive changes in the world, yet you struggle every month to make ends meet. Is there a happy medium? Is there a perfect major for you?

Do You Know What You're Worth?

This Wednesday, we’ll dive deeper into the College Salary Report to talk about how school choice and field of study impacts your career.

During this 30 minute Twitter chat; we’ll discuss the following questions:

  • Is there a direct correlation between college and/or major and your current job? How did these educational choices affect your career?
  • Did your college major lead to a job that is financially rewarding? If not, are you satisfied, or would you go back in time and choose differently?
  • Are, or were, you passionate about a major in spite of it being a non-lucrative one? How important is financial success versus making a difference in the world?
  • Were you able to turn a typically low-paying major into a lucrative career?
  • Was your college education worth the investment?
  • What advice would you give to college-bound students?
