What does it mean to be underemployed? Simply put, it means you have the education for a higher level job than the job you currently find yourself working. According to NPR, over 22 million Americans are underemployed. How did they get there?
PayScale’s new report examines the causes of underemployment, as well as the schools and cities where underemployment is running rampant. The Slideshow of Shattered Dreams highlights the top 10 most underemployed majors in America. You might be surprised by which majors made the list.
So how do you avoid underemployment? There are a few options. First, go back in time and pick a different major, one that is more likely to get you into your chosen field. If you cannot locate a flux capacitor, it might be time to consider graduate school.

I am not underemployed but what I’ve realized by reading a lot of articles on employment, the economy, going to college and college degrees to obtain, it just makes sense that if someone is underemployed why not maybe start your own business / freelance or join forces with your other fellow college grads and create a small business?
