To Telecommute or Not to Telecommute?

Topics:

Modern technology has made it easier than ever to connect with people from all over the world. This is also true in the workforce. Today, we can have coworkers who are on the other side of the globe because of the easy and instant access of the Internet. Are offices now obsolete?

Telecommuting has become a popular way for companies and employees alike to be kinder to the environment by saving on commute pollution. However, tech giant Yahoo recently banned telecommuting in order to “raise employee morale.” There’s clearly a lot of debate between the benefits and disadvantages of working from home.

If you work from the cozy privacy of your own home, then you’ll want to be sure that by not beeing seen, you are not being forgotten about. Take advantage of today’s technology by using Skype or a similar messaging program to get some “face time” with your coworkers. Remember that even though you’re not physically at the office, you still need to adhere to all of your company’s guidelines.
