Americans often look at taking a nap as being a waste of time; however, in Spain, local culture recognizes the benefits a nap can provide. In fact, businesses close down for a period of time in the midafternoon so that workers can take part in a designated naptime called a “siesta.” This About.com infographic centers on catching some quick Z’s and how to do so effectively.
If you’re looking for the best time to take a nap, you’ll want to hunker down between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. This is the prime time for a nap to give you optimal benefits, as it’s when your melatonin hormone level is at its peak. Melatonin is a known ingredient that helps your body sleep.
Sleeping during the day can be tough since we are so sensitive to light. You’ll want to find a dark spot that is also quiet. Just be sure you don’t sleep within three hours of bedtime or else it will interfere with your nighttime rest. It’s also important to note that you won’t want to sleep more than 30 minutes. Otherwise, you will fall into deep sleep and be groggier than you were prior to the nap.
