American business has overcome many obstacles over the years thanks to significant advancements in technology. But as many of us know, civic organizations and government services have fallen behind when it comes to tech trends — with costly results. In a bustling, tech-driven society where efficiency is key to productivity, the U.S. government is now turning to innovative startups to develop new software that will help government organizations run much more efficiently.
If you’re working on a big, civic startup idea that needs more than just a little nudge to launch, the Code for America Accelerator could be all your business needs to begin reinventing America’s future for the better.
According to their website, the Code for America Accelerator “turbo-charges select civic startups by providing them an opportunity to amplify market awareness of their product, to access a wealth of business training and advice, and to be introduced to a broad network of potential investors and civic leaders.” Not only does the four-month-long program put your new business in front of the right people, but it also offers each participating startup a $25,000 grant — without any type of equity agreement.
In 2012, seven innovative civic startups participated in the inaugural class including Aunt Bertha, a web application that simplifies the search and application process for social services and Revelstone, a performance metrics and social networking company for the public sector that helps local government leaders to measure, compare and discuss operational performance results with their peers.
