Get Productive the Old-Fashioned Way

Topics:

You’re in a rut. You can’t keep up with your various work tasks, and no to-do list app is able to help keep you on top of things. Forget about technology for a minute and get productive the old-fashioned way

Rule No. 1 is to write everything down. Go out and buy some Post-its and put a whiteboard up on your wall. Post-it notes are great for creating to-do lists, but they are even better for reminding you of important deadlines or for breaking down individual tasks. You can stick these on your desk, in your planner, on your computer screen, or anywhere else that you think will ensure you won’t forget. A whiteboard is a great way for getting your thoughts organized. Write down ideas for a presentation or an upcoming project, use a color code and use it as your own brain map.

Sticking with the idea of writing things down, go out and buy yourself a notebook. Go with one that is small enough to carry around with you everywhere. Use it for to-do lists, deadlines, and anything else that needs to be recorded. Keep this notebook on your desk, in a place where it can’t be ignored.

Next, it’s time to get rid of distractions. That means hiding your smartphone during work hours. It’s easy to get caught up in that addictive game or text messages from friends and family, but all of this is getting in the way of your productivity. When you are working, put the smartphone away and keep it away until your workday is done. Another big distraction is a cluttered desk. Keep your work area clean and organized.

Do You Know What You're Worth?

Lastly, get outside. When you are starting to feel lethargic and off your game, head outside for a short walk. The sunshine will help reenergize you and reset your brain for your next task.
