Being smart means more than just scoring well on a test. It also means being able to “catch on,” “make sense” of things and “figure out” what to do, as this Best College Reviews infographic explains.

The IQ scale goes from zero to 200. The average person’s intelligence level is somewhere between 90 and 110. Studies suggest that your IQ can actually be passed along to your children. Adopted children didn’t have a similar IQ to their families, as biological children did.

The nature versus nurture debate has been going on for decades and it’s no different today. Fifty percent of variance in educational achievement can be attributed to genetics. However, if you instill a belief in a child that intelligence is expandable, they are more likely to keep trying and then to succeed. The power of belief can go a long way, even when it comes to being smart.
