The Most Dangerous Job in the World [infographic]

Topics:

Poor Santa Claus is often taken for granted. Have you ever really thought about what goes into doing his job? Forget crab fishing and being a stunt double — this is the most dangerous job in the world.

Saint Nick has 31 hours to make 91.8 million deliveries. That means he has 1/10000th of a second to park, jump out of the sleigh, grab the correct gifts for that particular home, jump down the chimney, fill the stockings, place gifts under the tree, eat cookies, head back up the chimney, jump into the sleigh and get going to the next house. (And you thought your job was tough.)

There’s a lot of danger packed into those 31 hours. One danger is freight aviation, where the rate of fatal accidents in general aviation is 3.5 times higher than for air transport activity. Another is Christmas lights. Every year in the U.S. alone, hospital emergency rooms treat about 12,500 people for injuries related to lights and decorations. Other possible dangers are dog attacks from overzealous dogs protecting their domain, and a bad tummyache for overindulging on snacks.
