Topics:

Have you ever thought about becoming a wedding planner? Many people dream about their wedding day. It’s one of the most special days a person will ever experience in their lifetime. Imagine being able to be a part of bringing that dream to life. This Schools.com infographic examines the ins and outs of being a wedding planner.

What does a wedding planner do? Basically, your job is to funnel the vision the bride and groom have for their wedding day and bring it into reality. You’ll also solicit bids from florists, photographers, caterers and more and then contract those vendors for services. You’ll coordinate transportation and delivery of goods and services. You’ll then monitor the wedding to ensure things go smoothly. Perhaps most importantly, though, you’ll provide emotional support to the couple throughout the entire process.

So what path do you need to take to actually become a wedding planner? There are a few different paths. First, you’ll need your high school diploma; a GED or equivalent will also do. You can then take wedding consulting courses in the privacy of your home or in a classroom. You can gain real-world experience by working at a catering or event planning company. You can also earn a degree in a field such as marketing, public relations, communications or hospitality management. Following that, you can become certified through one of several trade organizations.
