Pop quiz: How long do you think the average employee tenure is in the U.S.? If you said five years, you’re close: it’s actually 4.6 years. Rasmussen College crunched the numbers on employee tenure and unveiled some curious statistics.
For example, women are more likely than men to stay with the same employer for 10 to 14 years. And those in architecture and engineering positions tend to keep them twice as long as those in sales and related positions — seven years and 3.4 years, respectively.
Surprisingly, 21 percent of workers age 16 and older have been with their current employer for a year or less. Another 22 percent have a tenure of between five and nine years. Just 11 percent of workers said that they’d been at their current company for 20 or more years.
