A&E has a new reality show called “Be the Boss” from the producers of CBS’ “Undercover Boss” that pits participants against each other to own a role at a franchise. Participating companies include Jazzercise, Complete Nutrition, Auntie Anne’s, The Melting Pot and Molly Maid.
The show features two lower-level franchise employees per episode. They believe they’re competing for a promotion and complete challenges centered on various aspects of franchise management. The winner becomes a franchise owner, while the runner-up gets the aforementioned promotion. In that sense, there are no “losers” like on other competition-style reality shows.
Molly Maid, which has 250 franchisees, will appear on the December 23 episode. CEO Meg Roberts revealed to Entrepreneur that their winner’s grand prize is worth nearly $100,000. “The contestant receiving the promotion will remain in her job while also traveling a few times a year as a Molly Maid field-training executive, and her salary will be three times larger,” wrote Dinah Wisenberg Brin in her Entrepreneur write-up of the show.

I think this show is going to be a huge hit. Everyone loves the show undercover boss, and this show will have that same feel but its adds competition to the mix, making it more fun to watch. Another cool part about the show is that both who are competing end up winning either a promotion or their own franchise, adding a new twist by having both win something instead of having one winner and one loser.

I really wish I was my own boss. I would be nice to be in charge. My boss is great I just would rather be paid more.
