One field that continues to boom, despite economic hardships and layoffs, is the health care industry. With 71 billion baby boomers scheduled to retire, more assistance and care is needed, resulting in 24.3 percent of available hospital jobs left open.
To be considered a baby boomer, you would have been born between 1946 and 1964. This means that on January 1, 2011, the very first baby boomers turned 65 years old. This particular generation has far more health concerns to worry about than their parents’ generation. For example, they are 700 percent more likely to suffer from chronic conditions. Widespread obesity, memory loss, arthritis and heart disease are also added concerns. This leaves a large demand for workers in the health care field.
So what are the top seven health care jobs that need to be filled by 2020? Top earners are physician’s assistants, pharmacists and physical therapists, all of which can expect to make over $75,000 per year. There is also a need for nutritionists and registered nurses, making over $50,000. Laboratory technicians and medical record technicians make the least, but the schooling that is required to get into these fields is far more feasible for people looking to get into a strong career field quickly.
