This infographic by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers outlines the fascinating history of women in tech. Although women comprise just one-fourth of the workforce in science, tech, engineering and math careers, they’ve catalyzed some of the most groundbreaking innovations.

Take Margaret Knight, for example, who invented the very paper bag machines we use today to produce grocery bags. Or Katherine Johnson, who calculated Apollo 11’s trajectory for its 1969 flight to the moon. Or Mary Lou Jepsen, whose company Pixel Qi makes laptop LCD screens and giant ambient displays.
