In What Careers Do Women Out-Earn Men? [infographic]

Women may earn less than men on average, but in some careers, women out-earn men as a matter of course. This infographic outlines some of the ways in which the ladies leapfrog their male colleagues in terms of salary.

Today, women earn an average of 81 cents for every dollar a man earns. This is up quite a bit from 1980, when women made just 64.2 cents per man-earned dollar. In 147 cities, though, including Atlanta, Memphis, San Diego and New York, women who are childless and unmarried earn between 8 percent and 20 percent more than their male peers.

Job choice and education also make a difference in women’s wages. Female interviewers, occupational therapists, technicians and mechanics are just some of the positions in which women can earn more than the men. See more revelations on gender and salary below.
