3 Reasons Company Outings Are Worth the Investment

Topics:

Company outings like lunches, nights out, coaching and buddy programs may be costly, but they're well worth the investment. A positive, engaging company culture yields effective, engaging service and overall growth. Mashable recently outlined several reasons business owners should invest in company outings; what follows are some of the key themes.

1. Creative recharging. Team outings let the brain relax and promote creativity, collaboration and overall productivity. The StumbleUpon staff swears by karaoke sessions, while Rent the Runway team members go “off the island” on themed boat cruises. Other companies opt for more intense get-togethers: Scopely has a kickball team and does paintball outings, while Foursquare’s San Francisco team recently went to a monster truck show.

2. Increased engagement and profit. “A report from RedBalloon/AltusQ found that companies with high employee engagement levels were up to 10 times more likely to see an increase in sales and profit than those with lower engagement,” wrote Mashable’s Lauren Drell. With this report in mind, consider your ongoing company picnics the foundation to driving sales.

3. Stronger brand. On-brand company outings give employees a context for their work. Spotify has regular concerts, while Green Mountain Digital focuses on outdoorsy activities like fly-fishing classes and hikes.
