How Does Office Design Influence Productivity? [infographic]

Topics:

Your work environment can enable or impede your best work, and this Mindflash infographic examines how office design affects productivity. Noise, air quality, lighting and even interior color schemes all shape how effectively we work and how happy we feel.

Over 70 percent of employees cite noise as the primary environmental factor that influences their output at work, but that doesn't mean your office should be like a library. Instead of aiming for complete silence, business owners should instead consider noise reduction strategies like echo-reducing ceilings, carpeted floors and sound-absorbing furniture or raw materials. Natural light and fresh outdoor air similarly helps employees avoid fatigue, eyestrain and respiratory problems.

Color also has a role in worker happiness. Cool colors like blue, green and purple are best for areas that require intense focus — conference rooms or the accounting wing, for example — while warm colors like yellow, orange and red enable creativity. The wrong colors can cause headaches, eyestrain and fatigue.
